Subject: Curl Curl Lagoon bird survey 26 April 24
Date: 29 April 2024 at 6:08:43 PM AEST
Hi All,
It was wonderful to see so many people turn up to participate in the survey - seven, the most we have had for some years! And there were plenty of birds to make the morning worthwhile. As usual, we did the first stage of the survey from the Park Street bridge.and moved to the Griffin Road bridge for the second stage. Here is the count:
Pelican 1
Little Pied Cormorant 5
Masked Lapwing 5
Black Swan 2
Chestnut Teal 38
Pacific Black Duck 30
Australasian Grebe 1
Great Egret 1
Australian White Ibis 11
Australasian Swamphen 2
Eurasian Coot 39
Dusky Moorhen 14
Striated Heron 1 (Juvenile)
TOTAL 150
Chestnut Teals remain plentiful, although down on last month. Coots,on the other hand, have gone from 18 to 39. Australasian Grebes are infrequent visitors - always nice to see one - and the Striated Heron is a rare visitor, probably flown in from Manly Lagoon where they appear to be a breeding resident. Next survey Friday 31 May.
Russell
