Despite overwhelming community opposition, Council’s Local Planning Panel has approved construction of a 25.7m mobile phone tower on the banks of Curl Curl Lagoon.
The Panel agreed with the Assessment Report’s finding that the issues raised in 400 submissions from community members, from both their state and federal parliamentary representatives, local school & Education Dept officials and Curl Curl Lagoon Friends were not serious enough to refuse the application.
CCLF is extremely disappointed with the decision and the way it was made given that basically the same DA was comprehensively refused by Council in 2017. We are now considering what further action can be taken.
We have lodged a formal complaint with Council concerning the absence of a Community Representative member from the 4-member panel hearing this matter.
We maintain this lack of representation was not only avoidable but highly disadvantageous to the community’s interests.
We will provide further updates about our response here on our website, on social media channels and on the Park noticeboards.
