Snow at Curl Curl Lagoon?

Writer: ModeratorModerator

Updated: Feb 26

Curl Curl Lagoon appears to have received a light dusting of snow in places this week.

However Coasts and Catchments officer Jason Ruszczyk explains this is actually the green alga ulva intestinalis - commonly known as sea lettuce - at the stage where it has settled on the Lagoon floor and turned white as it dried following the emptying of the Lagoon on Tuesday. In so doing it does help to protect the Lagoon bed from heat and sunshine.
